Saint Pete Beach recently won the Traveler’s Choice 2012 Award for the #1 beach destination in the U.S. and #5 in the world. TripAdvisor said, “Sugary-white sand, dolphins frolicking just off shore and eight major barrier islands make St. Pete Beach a postcard-perfect seaside destination”.
Saint Pete Beach is located on a barrier island just off of the mainland of Florida. It’s close to Treasure Island and the city of Saint Petersburg. It has a population of just over 10,000, but almost one third of its residents are seasonal.
There’s plenty to do in Saint Pete Beach. You can go para-sailing, dolphin watching, skim boarding, snorkeling, shelling, or just relax on the beach. There’s plenty of shopping on the island too. The Pass-a-Grille neighborhood has shops and an outdoor market near the beach. If you think you’d enjoy catching a movie, check out the Beach Theater. Built in 1939, the theater shows a wide variety of films and serves beer and wine. Fishermen will want to head to the Merry Pier for fishing charters or bait and tackle.
Saint Pete Beach has accommodations of all kinds; B&B’s, vacation rentals, mom and pop motels, and four star hotels. The most famous accommodation is probably the Don CeSar Hotel. The Don CeSar was opened in 1928 and gained popularity when it was frequented by the rich and famous during the Jazz Age.
